Bluff Coal Mine environmental management plan

How we helped

Trinity was commissioned to undertake air, greenhouse, noise and vibration assessments including baseline noise and particulate monitoring.

Air modelling was undertaken using The Air Pollution Model (TAPM) to provide 3D meteorological files for Calmet/Calpuff dispersion modelling. This included wind speed dependent variable emission rates and other best practice methods. Noise modelling was undertaken using Soundplan and a 3D digital terrain model of the mining operations.

Trinity recommended treating of haul routes with a binding agent, additional use of water sprays and other site-specific control measures to minimise dust. We also recommended enclosure of the coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP), a series of 15-metre bunds and other noise control measures.

Trinity also undertook background noise monitoring as part of the assessment and later undertook baseline dust fallout and suspended particulate (PM10) monitoring with a Partisol sequential filter sampler for one year.

About the project

Carabella Resources Limited applied for an Environmental Authority for the 1.5 Mt/a open cut Bluff Coal Mine Project south-east of the township of Bluff in Central Queensland and approximately 150 metres from the nearest residence.

The Environmental Authority was granted for the mining lease. Background PM10 concentrations and dust deposition levels were successfully measured, and sources of high dust levels identified.

Please note, Trinity Consultants Australia is a merger of three former Queensland-founded businesses: ASK Consulting, Air Noise Environment, and Vision Environment. Many projects listed have been undertaken by current Trinity Consultants Australia team members, while operating under those former business names. Learn more about our history.
