Robina Stadium noise and acoustics

How we helped

Trinity provided both environmental noise and acoustic design services for the award-winning Robina Stadium (Cbus Super Stadium).

The environmental impact of the stadium operations was assessed by Trinity and required detailed ambient noise monitoring for the definition of the environmental noise criteria, detailed 3D computer noise, and post-construction noise monitoring of the stadium activities, including amplified music.

The acoustic design included addressing the privacy and confidentiality requirements of spaces such as coaches’ boxes, meeting rooms and designing for appropriate room acoustics in corporate boxes and function rooms.

Additional environmental assessment was undertaken to assess the stadium and surrounding grounds for hosting large music festivals.

About the project

The Robina Stadium is a rectangular football stadium with a 27,500 seat capacity. It was designed and built as Australia’s greenest and most cost effective stadium. It is the first stadium in Australia to have a solar halo of photovoltaic cells integrated into the roof design, providing 20% of its energy needs.

The main use for the stadium is as the home ground to the National Rugby League’s Gold Coast Titans, and the venue sometimes hosts the A-League team Brisbane Roar FC. It is also used for a range of other rugby union and league games, and is capable of holding other sporting events, and concerts and festivals.

The venue will be used for the 2032 Summer Olympics and will host preliminary football.

The stadium has won a number of awards for its overall design, including the 2012 Regional Commendation for Gold Coast and Northern Rivers Region, Australian Institute of Architects; 2012 Helen Josephson Award for Innovation in Urban Design, Gold Coast Urban Design Awards; 2012 Finalist, Stadium Business Awards; 2012 Overall Winner for Engineering Merit, Steel Design Awards; and 2012 Large Project Awards, Steel Design Awards.
